Feb. 2 – Princessin Hans, the duo of vocalist (and SIEGESSÄULE columnist) Hans Kellett and pianist Jörg Hochapfel, are back in action this month after a quiet winter First up, they will bring their cabaret-punk stylings to the stage at the "frisch gepresst" SIEGESSÄULE lounge this Wednesday, February 3, at Monarch, along with DJs Sara Moshiri, Pansy and Herr Noll. Then on February 20, they will release their new EP and celebrate with a live concert at Supamolly. Hans and Jörg took the time to answer a few questions about their latest moves

You are in the midst of The Snowball Project, which could be loosely described as an album released in waves, with each wave getting increasingly more ambitious. Can you elaborate a bit, and tell us where you're at since starting?
We fund each round of releases by investing the same amount of our own money each time, but topping it up with the money that comes in from the songs we’ve already released. We started with the simplest songs and are moving towards the more complicated ones – string quartets, full orchestra, a football stadium full of singers… the songs support each other, like a family, and the scale builds and builds over time. Like a snowball!

Your new song "Schwitzen" is, notably, very electronic – drastically different from your usual "punk chanson" style.
Neither of us had ever sat down to write a "dance track" in our lives, which Schwitzen sort of screamed out for. There’s lots of electronic associated with "queer music", but we’d never tried it out. It will most likely be the only electronic track we ever do, but we Princessin Hans-ified it. It’s an odd little baby.

The previous songs of The Snowball Project were released as art prints and download codes. Will it be similar at the release show on February 20, or do you also have a more ambitious physical object as well?
It will be the same format for "Schwitzen" and "Dying on Stage", which is being released the same night. As long as the snowball is still growing, we want to stick with the format of the song artwork being in the old "vinyl single" style, so that will stay the same for a while to come. When everything is finished though, sometime in the distant future, perhaps we’ll release all of the songs on vinyl EPs with a collection of all the artwork, some massive box set that you need a crane to bring home… but that’s a long way off still. The main thing is to get the music into people’s ears first – the rest can wait.
