Halloween in Berlin

Oct. 30 – Just ten or fifteen years ago, Halloween wasn’t really a thing in Germany. But thanks to the magic of marketing, plus the influx of expats in Berlin, that has changed. Although the pagan holiday hasn’t reached the levels of popularity here as it does in the United States – no massive inflatable tarantulas on the front lawn – there are ever increasing options for showing off your costume.

For example, the summer lesbian party Mermaids (23:00 at Insel) is throwing its first Halloween edition. The island’s little castle provides the right ambience for bloodsucking fun, hosted by Fixie Fate, with DJs Turbodisko 3000 and Sarah Moshiri playing pop, R 'n' B and deep house.

Nina Queer will also be dressing up – more than usual – for this edition of her party Rose Kennedy (23:00 at Brunnen 70). The theme is "The Walking Dead", so start perfecting your zombie look. DJs Magic Magnus, Kid Rox and Alexio will play a mix of house, electro and rock.

All Hallow’sEven (23:00 at KitKatClub) is where a sexy nurse costume won’t surprise anyone. DJs Warbear and Monty will fill the fetish club with techno and progressive house.

Of course, an American girl wouldn’t pass up this important date to host a monster mash of her own. And what’s more American than taking something that already exists and stamping your name on it? Hence, Pansy Presents Halloween (23:00 at Südblock), with drag shows and apple bobbing.

All batty boys are welcome to Bob Young’s Halloween Masquerade (22:00 at Katakomben am Gendarmenmarkt). The massive gallery space at Gleisdreieck will provide the perfect setting for all the elaborate, expensive costumes on display.
