Brown and bitter: New York duo DarkMatter comes to Berlin

24. Mai 2016

The performance artists appear May 29 at Flutgraben, joined by Black Cracker, Ziúr and Hunni'd Jaws

May 24 – DarkMatter is the NYC-based duo of Alok Vaid-Menon and Janani Balasubramanian. Using spoken word and biting commentary, they disentangle racism, colonialism and transphobia – a mix of art, humor and activism. Earlier this year, they sold out several shows on their two-week tour of the U.S. called #ItGetsBitter – the name lampooning the "It Gets Better" campaign prompted by Dan Savage, the white white, gay sex advice columnist.

Joining them will be fellow word architect Black Cracker, who's best known for his work as rapper and producer but has also published a book of poetry. Additionally, DJ/producer Ziúr has created a "humid doom" audio-visual installation specifically for this event, and to close out the night, DJ Hunni'd Jaws will spin tunes.
