Peaches revives a German cabaret gem: "Hannelore"

3. Nov. 2016

Nov. 2, 2016 – One of the most important elements in Yony Leyser's Desire Will Set You Free was the soundtrack. Whether the onscreen performances (Rummelsnuff, Dev Hynes & Samatha Urbani) or the background music (Molly Nilsson, Born in Flamez), it illustrated the richness of Berlin's sonic landscape - both contemporary and historical. Case in point: electroclash goddess Peaches' drastic reinterpretation of the Weimar-era cabaret song "Hannelore", with stomping bass and beats instead of piano, and a few key lyrics translated into English. The music video is based on her appearance in the film, along with other footage of nightlife decadence, shot in Berliner locations like Monster Ronson's, about blank and Ficken3000.

On November 4, Chicago label Moniker Records will release the soundtrack album on CD, 2xLP, cassette and download. Some of the Desire cast and crew and music contributors will be celebrating with a two-part release party, open to the public. ZDF will televise the movie next week.
