Lecture, movie screening and reading
Rainer Werner Fassbinder remains the most important figure in post-WWII German cinema. The Schlosspark-Theater is dedicating a day to the director who died in 1982 and would be turning 70 this month. A talk (14:00) and screening of his film The Marriage of Maria Braun (16:00) will be followed by an evening of word and song from actor Hanna Schygulla (20:00), whom Fassbinder considered the main sources of inspiration for his work. Also tonight, his film The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant will be screened at Arsenal (19:30), while the Martin-Gropius-Bau is holding a huge Fassbinder exhibition running now through Aug. 23
