Germany, 1940: As the gay Baron von Heymann (Jack Woodhead) is admitted to a mental hospital, he soon recognizes the creative potential of his fellow inmates: the autistic Hans die Woge (Rummelsnuff) has a knack for singing sea shanties, the young Punka Rosa (David Pereira) can contort her body, and Johanna Lilienthal (Mani Orozco) considers herself the white Josephine Baker. The Baron schemes to create a touring revue with his insane ensemble, forming the basis of this rather queer musical. Drei Jahre nach der Wende wurde das Variete Wintergarten wiedereröffnet, um an die legendäre Vorgängerstätte aus dem Jahr 1880 anzuknüpfen. 1940 war die alte Spielstätte, an der auch Claire Waldoff wirkte, zerstört worden und lag bis 1992 brach. Heute hat sich der Wintergarten wieder zu einem Spielort internationaler und nationaler Artistik- und Musikshows gemausert.
