The annual Arab Film Festival Berlin takes place from Apr. 11-18. One focus at the ninth edition is masculinities in Arabic cinema, including some queer perspectives: the opening film of the side series “Spotlight“ is the autobiographical documentary Room for a Man (Apr. 12), about the reconstruction of a queer identity – told from the point of view of the Lebanese filmmaker Anthony Chidiac (pictured) who shares an apartment with his dominant mother. Also screening: Cinema Fuoad (Apr. 14) from 1994, about a Syrian trans woman struggling in Beirut, and  Majnounak: On Men, Sex and the City (Apr. 14), showing various portrayals of male sexuality.
