Esther & Abi Ofarim became internationally famous in the 1960s. The two met in the late 1950s at the Israeli National Theater, where Abi was employed as a dancer and Esther as a singer. They initially performed in Israel with folk songs under the stage name Ofarim, which means “fawns.” The duo began with folk songs, with Esther singing and Abi playing guitar and providing backing vocals.
