With compositions by Johann Hermann Schein, Isabella Leonarda, Johannes Brahms and Hugo Wolf. Against the backdrop of the 80th anniversary of the end of the war, Rudolf Mauersberger's funeral motet ‘Wie liegt die Stadt so wüst’ (How desolate lies the city) forms a highlight of our concert. This piece is a powerful warning against war, destruction and violence. It was premiered by Mauersberger himself in May 1945 in the ruins of Dresden's burnt-out Kreuzkirche.
