German-speaking women writers in British exile. Book presentation and discussion
Many female exiles found refuge in Great Britain after 1933:
German-speaking and predominantly Jewish writers such as Ruth
Feiner, Gabriele Tergit, Annelise Abels, and Charlotte Wolff.
The focus will be on the authors, some of whom were lesbians,
who fled Berlin. The exhibition will explore their living and
working conditions in British exile between 1933 and 1945, the
role of their origins and language in their lives as writers
there, and their networks and publishing opportunities.
