Fahrrad-Stadtführung „Berlin erfindet die Homosexualität”

  • Jul 22, 2026, 6:45 PM

Bicycle tour in German from Mitte to Nollendorfplatz neighborhood

Get to know heroes, activists, and role models of the past, and discover why Berlin "invented" homosexuality in the 19th century. You will hear fascinating queer stories—including the world's first public "outing," the first queer NGO, the first gay and lesbian magazine, the world's first institute for sexology, and the first gender-affirming surgeries. We also take time to remember the queer victims of Nazi terror and the HIV/AIDS pandemic. But the lighter side isn't neglected either; we’ll dive into the nightlife of the Roaring Twenties—featuring venues like Eldorado and Topkeller, as well as figures such as Anita Berber and Christopher Isherwood. All you need to bring is a bicycle—which you can easily book via an app. (e.g. Callabike "Starter", 12/€ Day)

Start: Unter den Linden 4, Neue Wache, on the right by the benches; finish: Motzstraße; duration: approx. 3 hours; tip-based
