Film and discussion
At four different locations, the multidisciplinary exhibition connects the biographies of queer artists from the GDR with their artistic positions. It features works by Toni Ebel, Andreas Fux, Harry Hachmeister and others.
Screening of the first part of the new ZDF documentary series about a gay artist couple from East Berlin and a virus that suddenly changed everything in the 1980s. The subsequent panel discussion will focus on the political and social role of AIDS in East Germany. Why did Erich Honecker's government only inform its population after years of hesitation? What measures did the authorities implement, and how did queer people, in particular, react to the threat? What function was East Germany's first gay film, "Coming Out," intended to fulfill in the fight against the disease, even though it doesn't explicitly address AIDS? The discussion will also explore the consequences of the epidemic for the art world in both East and West. The art theorist Wolfgang Max Faust, who died of AIDS, stated: "Art is no longer about art. It's about our lives."
Registration until 25 May at post@kvost.de
Auf dem Podium: Jens Bisky, Johannes Nichelmann, Dr. Hennig Tümmers. Moderation: Christine Watty
