Born in 1989 in the London suburb of Ipswich, Bartees Leon Cox Jr. spent his youth first in Greenland, then in Mustang, Oklahoma, where he didn't have the easiest time as a Black gay man. Even in his mid-thirties, now living in Washington, D.C., the elegant bald man has experienced plenty of adversity, but the way he musically transforms those moments of horror on his current album, Horror, harks back to the best funk-rock moments of his birth decade—such as the Prince-inspired Backseat Banton.

The former cantina to the left of the entrance of Berghain is a venue for concerts and parties, plus the lovely Bierhof Rüdersdorf beer garden during the summer. Paint peeling from the ceiling is part of its charm, along with old leather armchairs and cinema seating for chilling. The fireplace outside provides cozy warmth during the cooler months. The program spans techno nights to live bands on tour.
