There are many gifted interpreters of the Burt Bacharach songbook, but no one has ever managed to renounce love and all its trappings (‘I’ll Never Fall In Love Again’) or sing of its fading away (‘Walk On By’) with such nonchalance as the now 85-year-old bossa nova icon. And ever since she recorded “That’s What Friends Are For” 41 years ago – a globally successful charity single for the American Foundation for AIDS Research – the diva has been a firm favourite within the community. On her (rescheduled) “Goodbye – One Last Time in Germany” tour, she will be accompanied by the Klassische Philharmonie Nordwest from Bremen. The first Berlin date is already sold out, but tickets are still available for the additional concert on 31 May.
