Classical Concert
The German Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Manfred Honeck, performs Tchaikovsky’s famous ‘Fate Symphony’. The work is subtitled ‘In complete resignation to fate’ – a reference to his situation as a gay man in Tsarist Russia in the late 19th century. The programme also features Sibelius’s Violin Concerto and “Lachrymosa: 1919” by Adolphus Hailstock. The piece commemorates the “Red Summer”, a wave of racist violence directed against the prosperity of African Americans following the First World War.
