Composed primarily of instrumentalists from Basel’s new music scene, Ensemble Inverspace consistently dedicates its performances to contemporary composers. During its guest appearance in Berlin—part of the "Unerhörte Musik" series—the ensemble presents the song cycle "Tombstones" by Californian composer Michael Pisaro-Lui, which he recorded in 2022 in collaboration with US songwriter Julia Holter. For the vocal parts in "Tombstones", Ensemble Inverspace has now enlisted the talents of Sweden-based soprano Sofia Jernberg, who was awarded this year’s Berlin Art Prize in the Music category. That is to say: at the very same ceremony where Jernberg’s declared role model, Meredith Monk, was also honored (receiving the Grand Art Prize).
