Fifteen years ago, the Huffington Post described why queer indie pop fans consider Jens Lekman concerts to be a safe space. Now, the Swedish (straight) songwriter has teamed up with gay US young adult author David Levithan (Boy Meets Boy) to publish the novel Songs for Other People's Weddings. Its protagonist, a popular indie pop singer who is often booked for wedding celebrations—very often by queer couples—has a lot in common with Lekman. The music album of the same name now picks up on the bizarre experiences at those weddings and, as in the (not only lesbian) long-time favorite “Postcard to Nina,” enchants with empathetic lyrics and rousing melodies.
