As violinist for Antony & The Johnsons, Rufus Wainwright and Lou Reed, Joan Wasser became known to a wide audience in the early 2000s, who then also took notice of her pop trio Joan As Police Woman (where Wasser sings and plays piano). Even though lesbian bassist Rainy Orteca is no longer part of the line-up, Joan As Police Woman's expressive soul pop still has a large fan base in the queer community.
