The Karajan Academy awards the Claudio Abbado Composition Prize to an outstanding emerging composer. The prize includes a commissioned work composed specifically for the Academy, which will be premiered at this concert. Berlin-based artist Norbert Bisky, known for his homoerotic imagery, will create a visual experience live on stage, synchronized with the music. The program is complemented by Arnold Schoenberg's expressionistic "Verklärte Nacht" (Transfigured Night) and Mozart's Symphony No. 40.
