Medieval poetry set to music as spiritual choral works with pop and jazz influences

It was not only Carl Orff who drew inspiration from the stories of the *Codex Buranus* for one of his most famous choral works (*Carmina Burana*); contemporary composers—such as Peter Schindler, a Swabian based in Berlin—have also been inspired by this medieval manuscript. Now, Schindler’s setting—which navigates the interplay between medieval musical language and jazz-influenced rhythms—is being performed in a slightly abridged version at two Berlin churches by the Rixdorfer Kantorei, young vocal students from the UdK (Berlin University of the Arts), and a small band (featuring, among others, the renowned trans saxophonist Volker Holly Schlott).
