This hyper-romantic, XXL-sized work by the young Arnold Schoenberg (before his twelve-tone phase) has always attracted queer classical music fans with its larger-than-life glorification of an impossible love. It is rarely heard in Berlin because of the sheer scale of the production. Now, the orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, under Donald Runnicles, is staging this masterpiece – with soprano Felicia Moore as Tove, who sings the meltingly beautiful "Nur sag ich dir zum ersten Mal: Ich liebe dich" It doesn't get more exhilarating than this!
