Queer ballet music by Ravel
It is surely no coincidence that the gay French composer Maurice Ravel adapted the story of "Daphnis et Chloé" - set in ancient Greece - into a ballet at a time when "Greek" served as a code word for homosexuals. The Staatskapelle, under the direction of François-Xavier Roth - a conductor currently embroiled in a MeToo scandal - performs the complete ballet score in all its opulence, joined by the State Opera Chorus. The program also features Mendelssohn’s celebrated Violin Concerto, with Renaud Capuçon as the soloist.
