Even before Tasha Viets-VanLear was cast in the 2024 New York stage adaptation of Sufjan Stevens’ album *Illinoise*, her lesbian love songs—characterized by delicate instrumentation and gentle delivery—shared much in common with Sufjan’s own light, tender musical touches. The singer-guitarist, who grew up in Chicago and was exposed to theater and poetry at an early age, seemed so poised and at peace on her 2018 debut album, *Alone At Last*, that it was hard to imagine how she could further elevate those uplifting, intricate melodies. Yet, Tasha—now based in New York—has continued to surprise listeners with further refinements from one album to the next. This November, the artist, now in her late twenties, will present songs from her fourth LP, *You Are The Spring!*, during a brief European tour that includes a stop in Berlin.
