Jerome Kern, with songs like Smoke Gets in Your Eyes and Old Man River, is considered the father of the American musical. Berlin jazz pianist Wolfgang Köhler, who recorded two songbook CDs with Erik Leuthäuser featuring the gay composers Kent Carlson and Ronny Whyte, dedicates his instrumental tribute to both the classics and rarities from Kern's rich repertoire.
