The author discusses and reads from his novel
Berlin after the fall of the Wall. The narrator, Steffen—in his early twenties—has moved from Munich to the banks of the Spree. He meets Torsten, his contemporary, who had relocated from Dresden to the GDR’s capital a few years earlier. The sexual attraction between the two is immense. Perhaps it will turn into something more. But it’s complicated. At the same time, the city offers plenty of distraction: bars, clubs, pubs, saunas, and parties held within the vacant buildings left behind by the dictatorship. A nostalgic glimpse of a “different” Berlin from thirty years ago. Or, as one review so aptly puts it: “Sperm-caked, drifting through the Berlin of the nineties.”
