Music by Beethoven, Mahler, and Schumann

In their program, gay tenor Ludwig Obst and pianist Gavin Roberts bring together Beethoven’s An die ferne Geliebte, Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, and Schumann’s original version of Dichterliebe to form a sweeping narrative of loss and longing. As the program notes state: “At the beginning of every cycle lies an experience of separation.” And: “Consolation is found in turning toward nature, while music transforms the pain.”

Fans of the queer music theatre collective tutti d*amore will know Obst from his acclaimed operetta performances in unusual venues such as Kater Blau, where he has impressed with his radiant voice and an even more radiant stage personality.
