A play in which all the performers, dressed as cats in skin-tight aerobics costumes, show off their athletic bodies and dance to the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber? And where, at the end, the diva belts out the ballad "Memory" with maximum emotional impact? Yes, this cult musical from the 1980s has many gay fans – and it's still touring. "Now and forever" was once the PR slogan on Broadway. The performances are in English with German surtitles, which is great: because the original texts by T. S. Eliot – one of the most important representatives of literary modernism in England – are a thousand times better than the horrific German translation by Michael Kunze (which, unfortunately, still shapes the genre's image in Germany).
