This is something for seasoned opera buffs: the German premiere of Alberto Franchetti’s three-act opera Fior d’Alpe – featuring the choir and orchestra of the Berlin Opera Group under the baton of Felix Krieger. The original materials for the work, which premiered at La Scala in 1896, were destroyed during the war and have been re-edited based on a copy of the score rediscovered in Washington. For those who are unfamiliar with him: Franchetti later composed the famous Turandot finale after Puccini died and left his last opera unfinished. This spectacular, high-impact Franchetti finale is still performed worldwide today, including in Berlin.
