Inspired by the true story of the Chinese opera singer and spy Shi Pei Pu, who lived for over twenty years as a woman in a relationship with the French diplomat Boursicot, who was unaware of Shi’s biological sex, “Mr. Yellow” humorously and critically deconstructs the (colonial) images, fantasies and projections that continue to shape Asian-perceived masculinity to this day.
