Everyone has a childhood: from playing in the streets, in sandboxes, and in post-Soviet urban spaces—to steel playgrounds in Central America, centuries-old stone staircases in the Forbidden City, water slides, and plastic play structures—all the way to first cigarettes and kisses on village playgrounds. With *spiel(t)raum*, Ying Yue and Sascha Malina Hoffmann invite us into the play-worlds of our past and present. They weave together stories of playgrounds and childhood, exploring themes of scale and power dynamics, migration and transition, growing up in different places, shifting perspectives, and the act of encountering one another. Documentary elements and fiction merge to form a playground of theatrical magic, brought to life live by the performers.
