A total work of art about the icon of ballet
Kirill Serebrennikov's monumental “scandalous play” about the gay Russian ballet star Rudolf Nureyev (1938-1993) is now coming to Berlin. After its premiere in Moscow, it was removed from the Bolshoi Theater's program due to stricter anti-LGBTIQ* laws, as it was interpreted as “propaganda of non-traditional values.” The gay Berlin director of the State Ballet is now bringing it to Berlin.

A good 100 years ago, in the then still independent area of Charlottenburg, the Deutsche Oper was founded in the name of modern music theater, offering full visibility of the stage from every seat. The opera house stayed true to this tradition of citizenry when Fritz Bornemann's new building opened in 1961.
