Explorations of Berlin's queer history before/after 1933

In the plays of the queer Viennese folk theater group Nesterval, the audience accompanies individual characters through a multitude of scenes – like on a nested film set. The focus is on the queer history of Berlin before and during the terror of National Socialism – particularly in the Scheunenviertel (Barn Quarter) around the Sophiensæle. Inspired by the biographies of LGBTQ+ individuals who were systematically persecuted and murdered during the Nazi dictatorship, fiction and reality are woven together into a moving narrative. The Nesterval ensemble comprises actors, performers, and stage artists, including drag queens and kings.

SIEGESSÄULE Spot

Innovative dance, alternative theatre, and music festivals can be discovered here in the rooms of an old craftsmen's clubhouse. Gender issues and queer artists are part of the cultural canon - the best known are the Tanztage (Dance Days) in August.
