Too Black for the theater world, too white for my mother—I chose the stage as my escape. “Report on My Former Life as a Black Woman” is a hybrid solo performance that blends dance, DJing, and storytelling. At the turntables, I deconstruct Afro-electronic sounds, from Amapiano to Gqom, to tell a story of a dual existence and its contradictions.

Massandje Sanogo is a performance artist, writer, and director. Her work exists at the intersection of body, sound, and image, drawing on body memory and improvisation. Starting with intimate narratives interwoven with Black and Afro-descended identities, she connects individual experiences with shared stories.
