Exhibition opening
As part of Berlin Art Week, KVOST presents the Polish artist Izabella Gustowska (b. 1948). Gustowska is this year’s KVOST scholarship recipient and the winner of the 2026 Claus Michaletz Prize. The exhibition is part of the Berlin Art Week "Featured" section.
Since the 1970s, Izabella Gustowska has been a defining figure in Polish conceptual art. Her work operates at the intersection of the representation of the body, the construction of the subject, and feminist visual critique, exploring the conditions of visual perception and the cultural production of identity. As a professor at the University of the Arts in Poznań, she has influenced several generations of artists. She has gained international recognition through, among other things, her participation in the São Paulo Biennial (1983, 1987) and the Venice Biennale (1988).
For her presentation at KVOST, Gustowska is showing new works that engage with themes of memory and temporality. The starting point is the family home in Poznań—where her family has lived since 1938—which serves as a space of both biographical and cultural memory. These new works enter into a dialogue with key pieces from the 1980s that were created during her time in that very place.
