Michael Pyter brings diverse perspectives to his artistic practice through his work as a graphic motion designer, illustrator, and actor. Next to Eldorado presents a selection of his large-format chalk drawings (a triptych measuring 2.10 m x 4.80 m) on illustrated magazines from 1920s Berlin, in which he explores various lifestyles, interpersonal relationships, and states of mind. The motifs oscillate between dream sequences and theatrical scenes—atmospherically ethereal, yet always with a precise attention to body language and composition. The use of chalk and 100-year-old magazines underscores the fleeting nature of the depicted moments and forms a bridge to queer life in the Nollendorf neighborhood—then and now.
