The Staatskapelle, under chief conductor Christian Thielemann, performs the overwhelmingly late romantic “Four Last Songs” by Richard Strauss – and brings star soprano Diana Damrau onto the podium. This will be an emotional indulgence in a class of its own, with songs that gay music aficionados in particular have a great weakness for. The whole thing is combined with the “Alpine Symphony” by Strauss, a sound blockbuster in a class of its own.
