We commemorate Oskar “Ossy” Gades with the laying of a Stolperstein (memorial plaque) at his last freely chosen residence.

His life story is representative of many queer people whose lives were destroyed by Nazi persecution. Ossy Gades was a well-known figure in Berlin's nightlife during the Weimar Republic. As a hostess, restaurateur, and businessman, he moved in the circles of the legendary Eldorado, a place that stood for freedom and cultural diversity in Berlin at the time. After a degrading trial by the Nazi justice system, marked by prejudice and denunciation, Oskar Gades died in December 1937 at the age of only 35 in Plötzensee Prison.
