In the 1920s, dancer, director, producer, and screenwriter Erik Charell (1894–1974) modernized operettas and revues, transforming them into brash jazz spectacles. His greatest success was Im weißen Rössl (The White Horse Inn). Stars such as Marlene Dietrich, Joseph Schmidt, Claire Waldoff, and the Comedian Harmonists made their debuts in his revues. As a gay Jewish man, he was forced to emigrate in 1933... yet upon returning after the war, Charell found success once again! Now, Bühne der Träume – eine Revue über Erik Charell tells the story of his life, featuring numerous songs and film clips.
