The lesbian icon of the film industry (“Is Mausi Coming Out?!”) has written her first novel – a German-Italian film story. Maccarone is now presenting it at Eisenherz. What's the book about?

The main character, Giuseppina Rigatoni, is in her mid-fifties, teaches directing at the film university, and hopes to finally direct a feature film again. The necessary courting of officials and film stars, whom she has to win over to get her film project off the ground, increasingly triggers resistance within her. Nevertheless, she flies to London, Paris, and Venice, smiling at film parties against her inner chorus of imposters.

The sudden death of her father, one of the first so-called guest workers to come to Germany, confronts her with her family history after years of repression. Unable to speak the language, she struggles with bureaucracy in his southern Italian mountain village while continuing her efforts to make her film a reality. Luckily, Anouk is by her side, the love of her life and her home. But why does Anouk keep meeting up with Melanie?
