This is part 3 of the festival’s dialog series, following parts 1 and 2 on 10 October. More info here.
What’s it about this time? In her books, journalist and author Şeyda Kurt has repeatedly explored political emotions – tenderness, anger, hatred – not as a private matter, but as a starting point for social change. She distinguishes between emotions that paralyse and those that sustain us. The latter keep us moving forward, rather than causing us to freeze on the path towards a fairer society.
Journalist and author Alice Hasters writes about how vulnerability is socially negotiated, devalued or exploited – and how closely this is connected to the rise of harshness and authoritarianism. Her question is not only how to name and understand crises, but also what remains possible beyond hardened attitudes: What strength can be found in solidarity and vulnerability when both are socially devalued?
In conversation, Şeyda Kurt and Alice Hasters ask: What does resilience mean when certainties begin to crumble? What does resistance look like when it is not about victory, but about holding firm – and how can shared heartache become a sustaining force?
The evening concludes with D-Dur Dykes*, fresh from their triumphant appearance in the musical Burning Berlin at SO36, where they recently featured prominently. The queer choir performs its own arrangements of queer choral songs.
Event in English.
