On June 12, 18:00, Heinrichplatz in Kreuzberg officially becomes Rio-Reiser-Platz. The gay musician and singer of legendary and political Berlin band Ton Steine Scherben died in 1996 at the age of just 46. In celebration of the square’s renaming numerous events are planned across Berlin all under the title Wenn die Nacht am Tiefsten – Ein Scherben Festival (50 Years Ton Steine Scherben – 70 Years Rio Reiser) The festival opens with film screenings at Freiluftkino Kreuzberg and Freiluftkino Hasenheide.
A new documentary from Albrecht Metzger about Ton Steine Scherben celebrates its premiere after the opening. The filmmaker will be present.
